Community Outcomes

Introduction

Council focuses its strategic planning for our district on the outcomes identified by our community.  In order to ensure optimum success in achieving these outcomes, Council's operations are structured based on the outcomes.  The identification of outcomes by the community is therefore a most important process and deserves the widest possible input.

The Current Set of Outcomes

The set of outcomes as identified by the community in 2003 are:

1. A district enjoying quality, affordable essential services, i.e. roading, sewerage, etc.
2. A thriving local economy creating opportunity.
3. Access to quality medical services.
4. An attractive district where residents want to be.
5. An active partnership between Council and its community.
6. Law, order, personal and property safety.
7. Affordable access to quality education.
8. Good social development

The next Long Term Community Outcomes Plan (2009-2019)

The next LTCOP promises to be a very important direction giving document for our district and as a community we must make sure that the outcomes identified for the plan are, indeed, the correct ones.  Whilst the current set of outcomes has proven its worth over the past six years, we as a community have to ask ourselves the following questions:

1. Are these outcomes still relevant?  Our district is undergoing significant structural changes and the next three years are going to be very important for the longer term future.
2. Do these outcomes adequately provide for inter-agency co-operation?  We have a range of service providers in our district and focusing all these efforts on a single set of outcomes will maximise the benefit to our community.
3. Is a six year consultation on outcomes appropriate or should it be done three yearly?  Whilst the cost of this process is high, it may well be outweighed by having a more "up-to-date" set of outcomes.
