Intro

Rates are assessed under the Local Government (Rating) Act 2002 on all rateable rating units in the Rating Information Database. Where rates are set on value, the land value of the property will apply (except for the District Promotion targeted rate which is calculated on capital value).

District revaluations are carried out at a three yearly interval. Rates for the 2008/09 rating year are based on valuations as at 01 September 2006. Rates are levied via three categories:

1. A General Rate calculated by a Uniform Annual General Charge (UAGC). Click here for further info on the UAGC.
2. A General Rate, calculated on a differential basis using the land value of the property. Click here for further info on general rates

Note:  The rating differential and land use are the current uses of the rating unit, and not necessarily the District Plan zoning of the property.
