Goal

To ensure that council’s environmental planning and regulatory functions are met in an efficient and effective manner that provides for a dynamic, pleasant and harmonious environment within the district.

Nature and Scope of Activities

This activity involves the bulk of the council’s statutory responsibilities for areas such as issuing and monitoring building consents, resource consents, health licences, dangerous goods licences, etc.  This activity also includes non-consent related duties in terms of carrying out the functions and requirements imposed by statute and regulations.  The planning functions involve the preparation and monitoring of the District Plan.  Provision of advice is a major component of these activities.

Strategic Issues

There are two key issues:

1. Ensuring that the proposed District Plan is operative or at least proposed.
2. Establishing monitoring programmes for building matters.
