Refuse Collection

Goal

To provide roadside refuse collection in urban areas and refuse disposal facilities (tips and skips) throughout the district for the sustainable management of public health and the environment.

Nature and Scope of Activity

The council provides a roadside domestic refuse collection for about 4,800 properties.

For any issues regarding a missed collection, please contact Council's contractor on 03 768 4058.

New Refuse Collection system

In order to make the cost of refuse disposal more equitable ie, those who produce the most pay the most, Council introduced the following changes to the collection system effective from 1 July 2007:

·             Residential properties on the collection route will be issued with 104 plastic ties to tie around the neck of refuse bags each year. Those properties putting out more than 104 bags per year can purchase additional ties from Council offices and approved outlets at $2.10 each.

·             Commercial properties that currently receive two collections per week will receive 208 ties per year. Those putting out more than 208 bags per year can purchase additional ties from Council offices and approved outlets at $2.10 each.

·             Only standard refuse bags (approx 800mm length by 350mm wide) from retail outlets or Council will be accepted for pick up.

·             The weight limit is 15kg per bag.

·             Bags must be out by 8am on collection day.

·             Bags without the official ties will be left with a sticker placed on them reminding the property owner of collection conditions.

·             Overweight bags will be left and stickers placed on them reminding the property owner of collection conditions.

·             Council will phase out the selling of refuse bags
