Welcome to our home – the gateway of the West Coast of the Southern Alps, where the sea and the mountains and the lakes are only a moment away.
The Grey District is on the West Coast of the South Island. It stretches from the south banks of the Punakaiki River in the north, SE to Mt Anderson, N to The Pinacle SE to Craigeburn in a SE direction to Mt Barron, SW to Jacksons and following the Taramakau River to the Tasman Sea. The area of the Grey District is 3,513 square kilometers. |
The district is rich in history>> and character. Key industries>> are tourism, mining, agriculture, fishing, manufacturing and services industries. The main hospital for the West Coast is in Greymouth. Watch out for the glorious Barber>>, a biting omen of a gorgeous day ahead.
Westland Anniversary Day
This is always the Monday closest to the 1st of December (not the first Monday in December as if often displayed on calendars). In 2013, Anniversary Day will be Monday 2 December 2013.
