Refuse collection

How it works & days of collection.

Collection system

  • Properties paying a refuse collection fee on their rates are issued with yellow refuse ties each year. These ties must be tied around the neck of the rubbish bag placed out for collection or it will not be picked up. Vouchers for the ties are sent to ratepayers in June and they can be redeemed in our office or by returning to us in the pre-paid envelope supplied asking for the ties to be mailed out to a nominated address. Note that the voucher is sent to the owner/ratepayer of the property, so if you rent the property you will need to contact your landlord to get the ties for the property you are living in.
  • Residential properties on the collection route are currently issued with 52 ties per year. Those properties putting out more than 52 bags per year can purchase additional ties from Council offices and approved outlets (please click here>> to view the current price of Council refuse ties).
  • Commercial properties within the CBD that receive two collections per week are currently issued 104 ties per year. Those putting out more than 208 bags per year can purchase additional ties from Council offices and approved outlets (please click here>> to view the current price of Council refuse ties).
  • Only standard refuse bags (approx 800 mm length by 350 mm wide) from retail outlets or Council will be accepted for pick up.
  • The weight limit is 15kg per bag.
  • Bags must be out by 8.00 am on collection day.
  • Bags without the official ties will be left with a sticker placed on them reminding the occupant of collection conditions.
  • Overweight bags will be left and stickers placed on them reminding the occupant of collection conditions.
