Pool closure for roof beams repair
The Westland Recreation Centre pool closed on Saturday 2 September and will be closed until further notice for roof beam repairs.
We’re pleased to report that these works are continuing to progress. It’s important to remember that this is the first time in New Zealand these works have been carried out while leaving the roof intact, therefore it has always been hard to put a realistic timeframe on how long they are going to take. Removing the roof to replace the beams would have added hundreds of thousands dollars to the overall cost.
As with any complex construction job, challenges have been identified along the way and solutions have had to be found. However we can assure everyone that Council and the hard working contractors are doing everything they can to get the job completed and the pool reopen as soon as possible. We’re really sorry for inconvenience this may be causing some people.
Updates as the project progresses will be available on our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/westlandrec
The gym and stadium will still be open and operating while the pool works are taking place. If you're a regular pool user, why not use this down time to try some of other services on offer - ie a gym session or try a group fitness class.
We will advertise for Swim School enrolments when the project nears completion.
Seniors' gym special - just $5!
We've introduced a special deal for our senior citizens (65 years plus) to encourage them to give the gym a go while the pool is closed. Every Wednesday between 11am and 2pm, seniors can use the gym for just $5. This deal will also continue after the pool reopens.
Temporary upcoming closures
Labour Day, Monday 23 October 2017 - open 10am to 5pm
