We received a whopping 14,000 plus submissions on the recent public consultation about the principle of Council allowing sustainable native logging on Council owned land. Thank you to everyone who took the time to have their say.
We are currently working through the submissions and please note that due to the sheer volume, it is going to take time to individually acknowledge every single one. Council will be hearing those submitters that wish to speak to their submission at their meeting on Monday 12 June. However, a final decision on the matter will not be made until a later date so that the matter can be properly considered and feedback taken into account.
It is important to reiterate that this was an initial exercise to gather our community’s views on the PRINCIPLE only – NO consent has been granted and chainsaws are NOT on standby :). We have also been approached by DOC about determining the conservation value of the relevant land blocks and will be working closely with them.
Further updates on this matter will be posted on our website when available.
