Policy
On 10th November 2003 the Grey District Council, in response to a number of complaints and requests for action regarding activities arising during the previous season, decided that it had no choice but to become involved with certain aspects of whitebaiting activities on the Grey River. Accordingly the Council resolved to regulate aspects of whitebaiting on the Grey River that had been the source of those complaints.
The following sections of that resolution affect whitebaiters from the Cobden Rail bridge to the mouth of the Grey River:
- Council enforce the rule that no structures are to be built on the floodwall. This includes awnings and sunscreens of a temporary nature.
- Council enforce the Camping Bylaw in all areas of the Grey River and surrounds.
- Council police carparking to ensure no unlawful parking by whitebaiters including the parking of vehicles on the floodwall area in the vicinity of the big rock and along the floodwall to the Grey River Rail Bridge.
Please ensure that the above Council requirements are complied with during your time spent whitebaiting in the area.
