2010 Elections

Local body elections October 2010.

 
Triennial elections for elected members of all local authorities (city/district/regional councils) throughout New Zealand are to be conducted, by postal vote, on Saturday 9 October 2010.

The elections will be conducted under the provisions of the Local Electoral Act 2001, the Local Electoral Regulations 2001 and the New Zealand Public Health and Disabilities Act 2000.

GET ENROLLED!

To have your say in the local election this October, first you must be on the electoral roll. You will not be able to vote if you are not enrolled before election day. It is compulsory to be enrolled, although voting is optional. If you have recently moved into the district, don’t forget to update your information on the electoral roll.

You can enrol if:

  • you are 18 years or older; and
  • are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident; and
  • have lived in New Zealand for more than one year continuously at some time in your life.

To get an enrolment form or update your details, either:

  • call 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56); or
  • free text your name and address to 3676; or
  • visit any PostShop; or
  • visit the elections website, www.elections.org.nz, and enrol or update your details online.
