Currently CLOSED to the public
Unfortunately, the History House Museum building in Gresson Street is closed due to earthquake prone building concerns. Council made the decision to close it effective from 5pm Friday 24 February 2017 after an engineer report was reviewed and the building was found to be just 10% of NBS (new building standard). The national minimum seismic compliance rating is 33% as per earthquake prone building regulations.
Council therefore had no option but to close the building for the safety of its staff and the public. A pop-up Museum exhibition has opened at 8 Mackay Street, Greymouth next to the Regent Theatre, see more here.
