Walks
We have listed below just a few of the beautiful scenic walks available in the Grey District.
Many more walks within the Grey District (including the Point Elizabeth Walkway and Coal Creek Falls) are detailed on the Department of Conservation website and the NZ Walking Access website.

| Greymouth Flood Wall | Mawhera Quay | A pleasant walk along the top of the flood wall can be had from any of the several access/exit points. Views are of the river commercial area, fisherman's wharf and tidal estuary. |
| Cobden Cave Walk | by the Cobden Bridge | A walk of 150 metres to the cave entrance. It is an easy walk to the entrance of the cave however sturdy footwear is encouraged especially for those keen on entering the cave. The first chamber can be entered without a torch. A narrow slot gives access beyond the first chamber but visitors are advised not to venture beyond the first chamber. |
| Omotomotu Bush Walk | Marsden Road | A 25-minute loop walk within the capabilities of most walkers, through the only substantial forest area close to Greymouth. Halfway through the walk is a five-minute deviation to a lookout point with views of regenerating forest. |
| Kowhai Bush Walk | Anzac Park (off Turumaha Street) | A loop walk of approximately 700 metres consisting of a narrow zone of Kowhai Forrest, half of which is bounded by the mudflats of Blaketown Lagoon. Some parts consist of boardwalks which follow through estuarine vegetation and unsuspecting wildlife. |
| King Domain Walk | Mount Street | A zigzag uphill track to four lookouts. The first lookout, after a five-minute walk, provides a view of the town centre and the Grey River. Ten minutes from the first lookout is another rest area which provides a view of central Greymouth. From this point, the track is not as well formed but is easily negotiated by most walkers. After ten minutes from the previous lookout, a rock outcrop gives an excellent view of Cobden and a further five minutes reaches the last lookout, providing spectacular views of the lower Grey Valley areas. |
| Coronation Domain Walk | Kilgour Road | An interesting five-minute walk through Coronation Domain. Easy gradient track through second-growth native forest modified by the introduction of exotic and indigenous species that do not naturally occur in the Greymouth area, such as Kauri, Pohutukawa, Celery Pine, Macrocarpa and Sycamore. |
Gun Emplacement Walk Cobden | Richmond Street Cobden | A 10-minute (return) walk (560m) leads to a concrete structure where a 5" U.S. Naval Gun was housed which provided a clear firing range of the Grey River mouth. Access is from Richmond Street Cobden. This is not considered suitable for wheelchairs or prams due to walkers having to negotiate steep steps that lead up to the Gun Emplacement. A reasonable level of fitness is recommended however, it is achievable for the not-so-fit if plenty of rest breaks are taken. |
