Grey District Council advises motorists that there will be a full road closure of the Point Elizabeth Walkway access road from State Highway 6, Rapahoe. The road will be closed from 6 June until mid to late August 2023. A specific completion date will be advised in August.
This is to allow for the long awaited bridge replacement on the access road.
Council
have worked to maintain the structure for a number of years and the bridge was
restricted to a 2 tonne
weight to allow safer passage to lighter vehicles.
The new construction
will ensure a safe and resilient access for both the beach and the walkway well
into the future.
There will be no
access to the beach or walkway from Seven Mile, Rapahoe until the completion of
the build expected to be toward the end of July 2023.
Access
to the Point Elizabeth Walkway is still be available from North Beach Road, Cobden, but please consider
timing as this will require a return trip to the starting point. Please plan
ahead and take adequate warm clothing and snacks to prepare for the extra time
and distance.
We apologise for any
inconvenience.
