Government announces increase to parking infringement fees
Infringement fees were last reviewed in 2004 and these changes, made by central Government, ensure the fees align with the inflationary changes from the past two decades. All Councils in New Zealand are required to use these new fees and can no longer make any amendments for their own territories.
Changes have also been made to the fines for misusing mobility spaces. In their announcement, Disability Issues Minister Louise Upston and Transport Minister Simeon Brown said the changes have been made in order to crack down on people who misuse car parks for disabled people and to ensure towage and storage fees do not leave tow-truck operators out of pocket.

From 1 October, anyone who is issued a parking infringement anywhere in New Zealand will receive the increased fee.
The largest infringement increase is for anyone who parks in an area reserved for disabled persons which will jump from $150 to $750.
The Government’s changes will also affect infringements vehicle towage and storage fees.
A full schedule of parking infringement fee changes can be found here.
Local residents are encouraged to share the update with their friends and whānau so they don’t get caught out when the changes come into effect. The best way to avoid costly infringements is to get to know the parking system and adhere to rules and regulations.
