GREATER GREYMOUTH WATER SUPPLY - Precautionary BOIL WATER NOTICE

The precautionary BOIL WATER NOTICE for the Greater Greymouth supply remains in place.
A third clear test result was received today.
This means we have achieved three clear days of testing.
However, additional flushing of the mains will be done in Kaiata tomorrow.
A final review of results, monitoring information and trends is underway, to determine if the precautionary notice can be lifted.
The sample with E. coli was taken on Thursday as part of work being undertaken to connect the Kaiata water zone to Kaiata Park, and we have reason to believe it could have been a sampling error.

The latest water testing results from nine Greater Greymouth sites are clear.
The Grey District Council yesterday issued a precautionary BOIL WATER NOTICE FOR THE GREATER GREYMOUTH WATER SUPPLY.
E. coli was detected in a sample taken in the Kaiata zone on Thursday, so the precautionary boil water notice has been put in place whilst further sampling is being undertaken.
The areas affected are Greymouth, Cobden, Blaketown, Boddytown, Karoro, South Beach, Paroa, Kaiata, Dobson, Taylorville, Stillwater, Runanga, Dunollie, Coal Creek, and Rapahoe.
Tests taken at the Greater Greymouth Treatment Plant, Greymouth, Cobden, Runanga, Rapahoe, Kaiata, Dobson, Taylorville and Stillwater are all clear.
Three clear days of testing are required before Council can consider lilting the precautionary boiled water notice.
The sample with ecoli was taken on Thursday, as part of work being done to connect the Kaiata water zone to Kaiata Park, and we have reason to believe it could be a sampling error.
Whilst it is possible it is a sampling error, Council is obligated to take a precautionary approach to ensure public safety. This has resulted in the precautionary boil water notice.

E. coli was detected in a sample yesterday taken in the Kaiata zone, so the precautionary boil water notice has been put in place whilst further sampling is being undertaken.
The results took 24 hours. Daily sampling has commenced for all zones connected to the Greater Greymouth Water Supply.
The areas affected are Greymouth, Cobden, Blaketown, Boddytown, Karoro, South Beach, Paroa, Kaiata, Dobson, Taylorville, Stillwater, Runanga, Dunollie, Coal Creek, and Rapahoe.
All residents connected to this supply need to BOIL WATER UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
This includes all water used for drinking, food preparation, brushing teeth, or preparing infant formula, which must be boiled until further notice.
The sample was taken as part of work being undertaken to connect the Kaiata water zone to Kaiata Park, and we have reason to believe it could be a sampling error.
Whilst it is possible it is a sampling error, Council is obligated to take a precautionary approach to ensure public safety. This has resulted in the precautionary boil water notice.
Council is actively reviewing supply information in conjunction with the additional sampling being undertaken.
