Mayors Taskforce for Jobs
A collaboration between the Mayors Taskforce for Jobs (MTFJ) and the Ministry of Social Development (MSD), the MTFJ Community Recovery Programme has helped 23 rural councils assist small to medium sized businesses (SMEs) with recruitment, training and subsidies, to help them take on young workers or those who have been displaced due to the impact of the Covid-19 crisis. The programme will provide up to $500,000 per rural council to create a minimum of 50 sustainable employment positions.
Mayor Tania Gibson said "The MTFJ funding initiative began in August 2020 in our District and is proving to be one of my most engaging roles as Mayor of the Grey District so far. Marina and I have been out visiting businesses together every opportunity we can proving very valuable. It has highlighted many needs and struggles of our businesses but also many positive stories about what innovative, sustainable, and diverse businesses that we have here within our Grey District and broader West Coast region.
This funding incentive is giving employers confidence in making that decision to expand knowing they have this financial assistance through this current uncertain time.
I am excited for the future of Mayors Taskforce for Jobs in the Grey District (MTFJ) and what the future may bring, helping our employers, youth and COVID affected employees achieving new opportunities.
Councils are in touch with their local communities and have proved that we can facilitate such funding and hopefully in the future see more initiatives such as this"
