Our Collection

History House has a specialised collection of pre 1920 records of the West Coast, including photos, social comment, living conditions etc.

There are fabulous photos to be viewed (and copied if you wish). The photographic collection covers Greymouth, gold mining, coal mining, timber milling, shipping, living conditions, social history etc.

Research facilities are available. Museum staff can do the research for you or you are welcome to do it yourself.

Records include:

  • Indexes transcribed by museum staff.
  • Directories.
  • Pioneer family records.
  • Cemetery records.
  • Some school records and more (many small publications are available).
