Grey ​District Library Closure – What you need to know

Grey Dist​rict Library Closed until further notice in response to COVID-19

In light of the March 23rd announcement (https://covid19.govt.nz/latest-updates/update-from-prime-minister-jacinda-ardern-230320/?SubsiteID=10) from the New Zealand Government, Grey District Library will remain closed until further notice. Access to the Grey District Library and the Runanga Community Library, all programmes and events will be suspended until we re-open.

If you currently have items checked out from the Library, please do not return them until we re-open. You will not incur overdue charges for the duration of the closure as we will be extending loans and waiving fines until then. If you receive an overdue notice from the Library from 23rd March onwards, please disregard it.

Grey D​istrict Library Digital Collections are available anytime, anywhere

Use your smartphone, tablet, iPhone, iPad, or computer to access our digital collections of e-Books, e-Audiobooks, e-Newspapers, and e-Magazines free with your Library card.

Read a magazine or newspaper with PressReader online (https://www.pressreader.com/catalog). This delivers over 2,500 newspapers and magazines from over 100 countries in 60 languages, to your computer, mobile device or tablet.

The Libby and Borrow Box Apps allow you to download e-Books and e-Audiobooks directly to your device. There are thousands of titles to select from including new releases, non-fiction and children's content. You can download these Apps by searching your App Store.

Free wifi co​ntinues to be available

Free wifi continues to be available from outside the Library building at 18 Albert Street, Greymouth 24/7.

Grey District Library is closed – Frequently Asked Questions

Here is a list of frequently asked questions we have received regarding the Library closure.​

When will the Library re-open?

The Library will remain closed until at least the end of the COVID-19 Level 4 alert that is scheduled to begin from 25th March. Please check the Grey District Council's website or Facebook page for updates or the COVID-19 website (www.covid19.govt.nz) for details about the alert levels.​

Can I return my Library books during the closure?

No. We will not have staff available to clear and process returns from 25th March onwards. Please keep your Library items for the duration of the closure, and return them when the Library re-opens.​

What happens if my books go overdue?

We will not be charging any overdue fees for the duration of the closure. If you receive an overdue notice for something you have out, please disregard it.​

I have reserved a book that was waiting for me to pick up. What will happen to it?

We will keep the book on reserve for you until we re-open. We will notify you when you are able to pick up your reserve.​

Will I be able to pick up a reserve or have my items delivered to me?

From 26th March onwards, our staff will be observing the New Zealand Government's requirement to isolate themselves and will not be available to issue items or arrange deliveries. Please see information on our website for details of online library services available to you for the duration of the closure.​

I want to ac​cess an online resource but I do not know my Library card number or PIN

You Library card number is the barcode number on the back of your card. Your PIN can be reset online (https://ent.kotui.org.nz/client/en_AU/grey/changepinplainpage/SYMWS/GREY​).​

​Tuesdays, 10.30am to 11.30am (during term time)

​Trouble with your smartphone, tablet, phablet, laptop, notebook, or other device? Then why not try Device Advice at the Library, a free weekly service offering help and advice for your digital problems.

No appointment necessary, just drop by.

Justices of the Peace​Tuesdays, 1pm to 3pm

​​The West Coast Justices of the Peace will run a service desk in the West Coast Room of the Library for members of the public who need their services.​

Baby Rock and Rhyme​Tuesdays, 11.30am to 11.50am (during term time)

​Baby Rock and Rhyme is a way for parents and carers to interact with their babies through songs, rhymes, and stories. It's a great opportunity to have fun, socialise, and spend quality time with your wee tot.​​

Reading with Waldo​Wednesdays, 3pm to 4pm*

Waldo is our special and award-winning(!) canine friend and he loves to listen to children read. He doesn't interrupt, he doesn't criticise, and he doesn't judge.

Re​ading to animals is a great and proven way to improve reading levels and confidence as well as acclimatise young children to dogs.

So, if you are around or would like to give it try, come on in and re
ad a story to Waldo. He and Katie, from Two Brown Dogs and a Cat, look forward to meeting you.

*Please note that, as of 16/03/2020, Waldo is taking a little break from his reading sessions.  We will let you know when he is back!

Storytime​​Thursdays, 11am to 11.30am (during term time)

A relaxed and fun session of songs, rhymes, stories, and stickers(!) for pre-schoolers. All welcome.
