Participants of the two poetry competitions organised by the Library and poetry-lovers are invited to join fellow poets for an evening celebrating poetry at the Library, where they can read aloud their poems or listen to others!

Join Graeme as he shares his expertise and experience in and with the publishing industry:

" Many people dream of writing a book but have no idea where to start. The process can feel intimidating, yet a few practical tips make all the difference. What most new authors don't realise is that there are major pitfalls you can avoid if you know about them upfront. Writing courses teach structure and prose, but they rarely cover the real‑world logistics of publishing. Worse, the industry is full of scams; I have been lucky, but I know hundreds who have not.

Having published five books, three using very different teams and methods, I have seen what works. I will guide you through ghostwriters, editors, proofreaders, and the sensible use of AI. I will also explain the pros and cons of softcover versus Kindle versus e‑book, because those trade‑offs are rarely discussed. My aim is to give you a clear, cost‑effective route to a quality result, without the usual confusion and risk. Writing is hard enough—navigating the system should not be."

Lizzi writes in several genres, from historical fiction in Utah, California, New Zealand, Russia and Scotland through to contemporary and veterinary fiction and nonfiction.

Lizzi grew up riding wild in the Santa Cruz Mountain redwoods, became an equine veterinarian at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and practiced in the Gold and Pony Express Country of California before emigrating to New Zealand. She is the proud mother of two boys in that sea of green.
When she’s not writing, she’s swinging a rapier or shooting a bow in medieval garb, riding or driving a carriage, playing in the garden on her hobby farm, singing, cooking, being an equine veterinarian or high school science teacher. She is multiply published and awarded in special interest magazines and veterinary periodicals.
