The West Coast Justices of the Peace will run a service desk in the West Coast Room of the Library for members of the public who need their services. No appointment necessary - just pop in with your paperwork! | |
Reading with Mrs Higgins | Tuesdays, 3pm to 4pm |
Mrs Higgins who comes to the Library on Tuesday afternoons with her owner Katie Shannon, and is available for children to read aloud to her. Research has shown that children can increase in reading confidence when reading aloud to a dog - the dog doesn't put any pressure on the reader and creates a non-judgmental audience "dogs listen attentively, do not laugh, judge or criticise (and) allow children to proceed at their own pace". | |
Storytime | Thursdays, 10am to 10.30am (during term time) |
A relaxed and fun session of stories, rhymes, songs, and dancing for pre-schoolers. All welcome. |

Poetry Competition
Event Description:
Join fellow poetry lovers in a competition to celebrate Phantom Billstickers National Poetry Day, 2024. The writer of the most engaging poem within each age category will win a prize. Winners will be announced at a Phantom Billstickers National Poetry Day warm-up event hosted by the Grey District Library at 5pm on Wednesday 21st of August. Prize winning poems will be read aloud at two local rest homes on Phantom Billsticker National Poetry Day, 23rd August.
Entry details:
Cost: Free. Open to Grey District residents only.
Topic: any. One poem per person.
Age categories :
- up to 8 years old;
- 9 to 13;
- 14 to 17;
- and 18 years and over.
Deadline: no later than 4pm Friday 16 August, 2024.
How to submit your poem?
Submit your poem, age range, address and contact details in person at the Library or by email to poetrycompetition@greydc.govt.nz no later than 4pm Friday 16 August, 2024.
