Council are going to be implementing some traffic changes to keep our town users safe – whether they are motorists, pedestrians or cyclists – safe.
On Thursday 7 June we’re going to be installing rumble strips on Tainui Street between Mawhera Quay and Mackay Street to encourage cars to slow down and stick to the speed limit of 10km in this shared space.
On Friday 8 June the following changes will be made:
- The stop signs on the Taniui Street/Mackay Street intersection are going to be changed around so that traffic on Mackay Street with have the right of way and traffic on Tainui Street will have to stop.
- The direction of the one way traffic on Albert Street between Mawhera Quay and Mackay Street is going to be reversed and there will be no entry into Albert Street from Mackay Street.
Please look out for these changes – they may take some time to get used to so we ask that everyone pays extra attention when they’re driving, walking or biking in the Greymouth CBD.
