Council Playground Inspections

Council recently carried out its 2019 annual playground inspections and, for the first time, had to complete the inspections under the latest NZ playground equipment and surfacing standard. Unfortunately a number of playground items were identified as not meeting the new required standards.

This meant that some items had to be fenced off over the Christmas and New Year's period to ensure safety until such time as remedial works could be completed. Council was, of course, reluctant to fence off these items during the holiday period, however, safety has to be the top priority.

The type of remedial works which need to be done mainly relate to safe fall areas and their size, fixing equipment to the ground and addressing corrosion.

On Monday 13 January 2020, Council will start working on repairing the high risk items identified and will have the fenced off equipment back open to the public as soon as possible.
