COVID-19 Alert Level 2: Council Services

From midday Wednesday 12 August 2020, New Zealand (with the exception of Auckland) will move to Covid-19 Alert Level 2. Auckland will be moving to Level 3. We will be closely following any update and advice of government and the Ministry of Health.

Please see below information on how Council’s services will be operating during the Covid-19 Alert Level 2 stage. At all of our Council facilities we will be taking the below steps to ensure we are doing everything we can to follow the government's guidelines for keeping our community safe.

For ALL of Council offices and facilities, the following will apply:

  • Maintain physical distancing of 2m from other people
  • Practice good hygiene – please use the hand sanitiser where provided
  • Stay home if you are unwell
  • Gatherings in confined spaces are restricted to no more than 100 people

Council offices

  • Open normal business hours
  • The upstairs counter is closed – please direct all enquiries to the front counter and staff will assist you
  • Contact tracing will be undertaken on entry

Runanga Service Centre and Library

  • Open normal business hours

Grey District Library

  • Contact tracing will be undertaken on entry
  • There will be no late night on Wednesday 12 August
  • Library open Monday to Friday 9.30am - 12.30pm for walk ins
  • Request and collect service available by phoning 768 5597 or emailing
  • Limited APNK computers will be available for the public to use – they are to disinfected after use
  • Storytime on Thursday 13 August is cancelled
  • Digital literacy class on Thursday 13 August is cancelled

Westland Recreation Centre

  • Open normal business hours
  • Contact tracing will be undertaken on entry
  • Swim School: Some changes will apply to comply with the Ministry of Health guidelines - staff will be in contact with parents
  • Gym: Physical distancing and restricted numbers will apply
  • Stadium: Staff will be in contact with sport clubs and in order to comply with restrictions, there will be no spectators allowed
  • Sauna will be closed, drinking fountains will be removed, hydroslides and water features will not be operating
  • Supervised Play Area is closed
  • Increased cleaning will be undertaken throughout the facility

Recycling & Refuse Centres
Open as normal – contactless payment options preferred but cash can be used

Dog parks and parks and playgrounds
Open as normal – practice physical distancing
