Grey District Council arrangements for Covid-19 Alert Level 1.

Please see below information on how Council’s services will be operating during the Covid-19 Alert Level 1 stage. Before you visit a Council facility please ensure that you or someone else from your household is not feeling unwell, it is advised that anyone feeling unwell should stay home.

At all of our Council facilities we will be taking the below steps to ensure we are doing everything we can to follow the government's guidelines for keeping our community safe.

  • Hand sanitiser will be provided at our facilities for use before entry.
  • Anyone feeling unwell may be asked to leave.

Council Office (105 Tainui Street)

Council has returned to business as usual. The offices are open between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

Grey District Library

The library is open under Alert Level 1. Normal hours will resume from Monday 15 June 2020.

Hours for the week of 9 June - 13 June are:

  • Tuesday 9 June 9.30am to 5.00pm
  • Wednesday 10 June 9.30am to 5.00pm
  • Thursday 11 June 10.30am to 5.00pm
  • Friday 12 June 9:30am to 5.00pm
  • Saturday 13 June 9.30am to 12.30pm

Westland Recreation Centre

Open under Level 1, please note the following;

  • No need for contact tracing, please use our QR codes for personal tracking.
  • No restriction for Group Fitness numbers.
  • No time limits per session.
  • Bookings for classes are no longer essential, but please make sure you book for RPM to secure your bike.
  • The Supervised Play Area will be operating from tomorrow.
  • Casual Stadium use will now be allowed.
  • We are still unable to offer warm showers due to remedial works poolside.

Please note: The Westland Recreation Centre pool, spa and sauna will remain closed due to maintenance working being carried out, to read more please click here.

Spring Creek Pool

Spring Creek Pool is available for lane swimming:

  • Monday to Friday 6am - 8am, 12noon - 2pm and 4pm-6pm. No bookings required.
  • Hot showers are available under Level 1.

Runanga Service Centre and Community Library

Open under Level 1.

Dog parks and Reserves

Open to the public, please ensure you stay away if you are feeling unwell.


McLean’s Pit Landfill & Recycling Centre

Customers should practice good hygiene at all times. Hand sanitizer is available at this facility.


Open as per normal under Level 1.

Recycling Centre

Open as per normal under Level 1. All recycling will be accepted during this time, via the usual bins etc.

Kerbside Recycling Collections

The sorting of commingled recyclables from kerb collections and those brought to McLean’s Pit Recycling Centre are operating as per normal.

We remind kerb side collection customers, that materials put in their yellow wheelie bins should be cleaned and comply with the products accepted for this service.

Approved clean products are;

  • Paper
  • Cardboard
  • Glass bottled and jars
  • Plastics = 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
  • Tin and aluminium cans

Customers are reminded that wheelie bins found to have non approved items in them, constitutes a breach of the Council’s Solid Waste Bylaw.

Resource Centres – Moana, Blackball & Nelson Creek

Open as per normal under Level 1.

Reuse Shop

Open as per normal under Level 1.
