The Grey District Council (GDC) has received a resource consent application from The Proprietors of Mawhera to demolish a heritage building at 128 Mawhera Quay, Greymouth.
The Former Royal Hotel is on the Heritage New Zealand Pohere Taonga List as a Category 2 Heritage Building, and is within the Greymouth Railway Historic Area. The building is a listed heritage building in the Operative Grey District Plan, and the proposed Te Tai o Poutini Plan.
The proposal requires resource consent as a discretionary activity under Rule 26.1(iv) of the Operative Grey District Plan, and a discretionary activity under Rule HH-R9 of the proposed Te Tai o Poutini Plan which has immediate legal effect pursuant to Section 86B(3)(d) of the Resource Management Act 1991.
