Grey District Council staff and contractors have spent two months checking every sump in the district – and removed 35 tonnes of material.
The district-wide sump clearing operation was undertaken by the Isaac Construction team.The initiative was a coordinated effort to inspect and maintain every sump within the district.
Each sump was carefully assessed by the roading team and logged into the council’s mapping system. Based on these inspections, the sumps were ranked by both priority and severity to ensure an efficient and effective response.
“Thanks to the hard work and commitment of the Isaac's team, more than 300 sumps were successfully cleared,” transport and infrastructure manager Paddy Blanchfield said.
Additionally, the main roads in the Grey district (Shakespeare Street, Marsden Road, Tainui Street etc) were swept as part of the overall project.
About 35 tonnes of material was removed from the sumps — a testament to both the scale of the issue and the team’s dedication in addressing it.
It included dirt and gravel.
“I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to everyone involved for their outstanding effort and professionalism throughout this project,” Mr Blanchfield said.
