About 9000 tonnes of locally sourced gravel is being spread across the Bell Hill area as part of a targeted initiative to bring rural roads back up to standard.
The Grey District Council is making great strides in improving rural road conditions, thanks to the co-ordinated efforts of a dedicated contracting team and the leadership of Roading Manager Paddy Blanchfield.
Currently, 9000 tonnes of locally sourced gravel are being spread across the Bell Hill area as part of a targeted initiative to bring rural roads back up to standard.
Despite facing the challenges of limited budgets through NZTA funding, the team is maximising resources to achieve the best outcomes for the community.
“We’re focused on delivering the highest value for the funding available,” Mr Blanchfield said.
“By sourcing metal locally, we’re not only supporting local businesses but also keeping transport costs down, which allows us to stretch our budget further.”
The contractor team has been operating three trucks in the area, spreading the gravel in preparation for grading and shaping.
Once laid, the gravel will be carefully worked into place to ensure a smoother, safer, and longer-lasting road surface.
