Water CCO backed
Grey District councillors voted yesterday to go ahead with a multi Council-Controlled Organisation (CCO) to take over the three waters.
The Government has directed change across all of New Zealand, and doing nothing is not an option.
Grey councillors heard submissions on two options – a standalone business unit, or multi Council-Controlled Organisation.
They voted unanimously for a CCO. Buller has also agreed to this.
Grey councillors agreed to set up a working group with three representatives from each council, plus the ceo. They will establish negotiation principles with the other councils.
They also felt strongly they wanted to keep costs down as the new CCO is set up.
