GREATER GREYMOUTH WATER SUPPLY CONSERVE WATER NOTICE

Commencing Friday, 4 September until further notice

Consumers on the Greater Greymouth water supply are being asked to conserve water in the week leading up to September 7, ahead of an overnight water shutdown required for NZTA works at the Coal Creek Bridge.

The NZTA is replacing the State Highway 6 bridge at Coal Creek, which involves moving the main Council water main. The water supply will be shut off for up to five hours, from 10pm on September 7 until 3am on September 8, to minimise disruption to consumers.

Council’s reservoirs at Omoto, Arnott Heights, Tasman View and Stanton Crescent have storage capacity for up to six hours. However, there is potential for water loss in some areas during the works, and residents may experience low or limited water pressure.

The conserve water notice is expected to remain in place for up to a week following the overnight shutdown, while reservoir levels rebuild.

This notice affects consumers in the Greymouth, Cobden, Blaketown, Boddytown, Karoro, South Beach, Paroa, Kaiata, Dobson, Stillwater, Coal Creek, Runanga, Dunollie, Rapahoe and Taylorville areas.

As a precaution, residents are also encouraged to ensure they have enough water stored to last several days.

Council Group Manager Operations Kurtis Perrin-Smith said while extensive planning had been undertaken to minimise disruption, residents should be prepared for the possibility of low water pressure and interruptions to supply.

“We are asking residents to conserve water in the lead-up to the shutdown so we can maintain reservoir levels as much as possible and help ensure there is enough water available during the works.”

The overnight work is weather dependent and may be delayed. Council will keep residents updated through our website and Facebook page as the situation develops.
