2025 Report
As part of Grey District Council’s Long-Term Plan, we regularly survey residents to understand how we’re performing and where we need to improve. The 2025 survey, conducted by Council’s Engagement and Communication team between 1 August and 14 December 2025, received 373 responses from across the district.
The results show a mixed but constructive picture. Residents told us they want to see improvements in core infrastructure and town maintenance, including footpaths, potholes, drainage, weeds and general upkeep. Affordability remains a key concern, with many questioning whether rates increases are matched by visible improvements and value for money.
There was also feedback about priority spending, particularly around the new library, with some residents suggesting a stronger focus on essential infrastructure and services. Ongoing drinking water issues, including boil water notices and household costs, were another significant theme. Many respondents called for clearer communication, greater transparency in decision-making, and more direct updates.
Encouragingly, people acknowledged improved communication — especially through social media and alerts — and expressed satisfaction with parks and public spaces where maintenance is strong. Many also recognised the efforts of staff, the Mayor and councillors, noting the challenging financial and legislative environment in which Council operates.
While this year’s results cannot be directly compared with 2024 due to different survey measures, the proportion of dissatisfied responses has decreased.
